As I begin to settle here in my new home I am reminded of a quote by the great Garth Algar "It's like a new pair of underwear, at first it's constrictive, but then it becomes a part of you". These words of inspiration have meant a lot to me in the last few weeks. There is a lot to learn in a short time, new faces to put with new names, new places, and so many things that come with the new. As a matter of fact it is often the new things that are the most difficult for us. The familiar is not scary, we are used to it and it makes us comfortable. But being comfortable does not mean we have achieved what is best for us. Many times we must become uncomfortable to gain the best. Think of child birth, it is a long painful process. It includes sickness, aches, fear, and it takes lots of money. Yet so many people go through with it, why, because it ends in something great. This is what it is to be a follower of Christ. We will be uncomfortable and it is that struggle that purifies us. It is that labor that strengthens us for the next challenge. It is those battles that set us apart from all those who are too afraid to stand in the gap and triumph over evil. It is these moments of hardship that become a part of us. So Blessed are you when people insults you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Christ. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. When we have hard things to suffer through remember, we are in good company.
